Important Note on Gmail Extension
Due to changes made by Google, we are retiring the Gmail Extension from the Keela Platform. Not to worry though, as we've replaced this with even better functionality that allows tracking of emails across all email platforms!
More information about the new feature can be found here - Using BBC and Forward Email Addresses with Keela.
Although we have retired the Gmail Extension, we understand that this is still working for certain legacy users. As such, we've decided to leave the integration live for those who are still able to use it, but please note that we are unable to provide support for any issues that happen with the integration. If you run into any issues with the integration, please start using the BCC and Forward feature as outlined in the link above.
Using the Keela Extension for Chrome
Once you've installed the Keela extension, the add-on will allow you to join your Gmail account with your Keela account so that emails can be tracked within the Keela app.
The Keela extension gives you two options within Gmail for tracking emails.
Track New Messages
When you compose a new email, a checkbox allowing you to Track on Keela will appear next to the Send button at the bottom left of the New Message screen. This will allow you to track that interaction, as well as all subsequent ones, in Keela.
To track your email and any responses, click the checkbox for Track on Keela. This will log each of those interactions under the Interactions tab of your contact.
Track Existing Email Conversations
You can also choose to track existing email conversations. This will log new emails under the Interactions tab of the contact you're corresponding with.
To track a conversation, open up the email conversation thread that you want to track. Click the Track on Keela button to the right of the More button in Gmail to track new email interactions between you and your contacts.
If there is an email conversation that you wish to no longer track, open up your email thread in Gmail. Click the Stop Tracking on Keela button to the right of the More button in Gmail to stop tracking new email interactions between you and your contacts.
How the Gmail Integration creates new Contacts in Keela
Sometimes you may receive emails from people who don't yet have a Contact record in Keela. You can track those emails as well, and Keela will create a Contact record for you!
The Contact record that is created by Keela is based on the information from the Google Contacts record. Note that Google Contacts is different than Gmail.
While Gmail typically only stores the email address of the contact, Google Contacts stores additional information in a profile, such as their name, phone number and address.
Before tracking your new contact in Keela, we would recommend saving the email address as a Google Contact so that as much information as possible can be transferred over. You can find instructions for adding contacts to Google Contacts here.
Below is an example of a new Contact that was not saved as a Google Contact (green box) and one who was saved as a Google Contact (red box)
